Advice for solo day trip to Detroit

Hello Detroit,
I've heard many cool things about Detroit and wanted to make a day trip over by myself (I enjoy my own company). I think I'd mostly be in the downtown area but I might Uber to a Kroger to see what it's like haha. My only concern is safety. I did read through old threads in this subreddit but I wanted to know if there was any specific advice you would recommend.
I'm F/23/5'2ft and would be travelling by foot (cross the border by bus, exploring by foot, maybe Uber but don't really want to).
Seeking any advice but I also have particular questions.
What time do you recommend me to arrive and leave Detroit? What self-defense tools may I legally carry?
Thank you!
UPDATE: I had a wonderful time! I ended up sleeping in and got over to Detroit by the tunnel bus around 11:30amish. The wait time and customs were quick! I took a Detroit bus (DDOT?) the 034 Girodolt (forgot) northbound towards the Eastern Market. The bus driver was so nice when I asked if it was the correct bus and he also announced when he reached Russell so I wouldn't miss my stop! I walked down Russell to the market and oh my god. I wasn't expecting it to be that huge! I was absolutely in love with how busy it was and explored all the sheds! I would say my favourite are the finished products/food ones. I ended buying some soap for my mom and butter tarts plus a beeswax candle for my best friend. Then I went straight to Supino's for pizza! The ordered line was long! I got a pepperoni slice and didn't have to wait for even three minutes. I sat outside on the bench and went to town on the pizza. It was good pizza but my hometown spoils me with amazing pizza. I did enjoy Supino's though! After, I walked down Russell to Mack? and walked left of it down to Whole Foods. It was interesting and really cool to see all the things I wish were in my local stores. It felt kind of like a pimped out or upgraded Remark. Then I went to Pho Lucky and was overwhelmed by their regular pho. They only offer regular, large, and x-large but I thought that was just one of those things where restaurants pretend it's bigger. Holy crap. Huge ass portion and a regular there is a x-large across the river! I debated taking the Q-Line but I opted to walk because I wanted to take in the sights. I'm glad I did! I popped into Warby Parker quickly and it was packed! Lovely place. I got to see Comerica Park (it was nice to see the hoards of happy fans!) and the Fox Theatre. I wrapped up my trip with sushi from Maru and a visit to the riverfront. I feel so bad that Detroit has nothing to look at besides the Casino and apartment buildings from Windsor. We get to see Detroit's lovely buildings and all the packed urban life so it's not a trade off. But I'm glad Windsor put up the flag though!
I felt relatively safe. The advice given here was solid! There were a few times I felt sketched out but no incidents and I also recorded the emergency numbers for the future!
I'm so excited to visit Detroit again and I feel silly I haven't gone sooner! I'll be going again this Saturday and I'm thrilled!
Thank you, Reddit!
